Israel’s military confirms it undertook strikes in Iran’s capital Tehran on early Wednesday, saying more than 50 fighter jets took part in the operation.
According to Associated Press the army claimed it hit a centrifuge manufacturing facility in Tehran, without elaborating on its location.
“This morning, an air force air vehicle identified and attacked five Iranian combat helicopters of AH-1 type. The helicopters localized at Kermanshah airfield, their mission was to try and to attack our aircrafts," added Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, an Israeli military spokesperson.
Israeli warplanes pounded Iran’s capital overnight as Iran launched a small barrage of missiles at Israel with no reports of casualties.
An Iranian official warned that that any U.S. intervention in the conflict "would be a recipe for an all-out war in the region.”
He did not elaborate, but thousands of American troops are based in nearby countries within range of Iran’s weapons.
The U.S. has threatened a massive response to any attack.
Defrin added that in the Gaza Strip, “we are strongly fighting according to a structured plan with four divisions. In the past 24 hours alone, the IAF, guided by the Southern Command and the Intelligence Directorate, struck over 75 targets.”
Israel’s military campaign since October 2023 has killed over 55,300 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Its count doesn’t distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Israel launched its campaign aiming to destroy Hamas after the group’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, in which militants killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking another 251 hostage.
The militants still hold 53 hostages, fewer than half of them alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefire agreements
