Russia has amassed around 710,000 troops along the 1,255-kilometre front line, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said in an interview with the Sky News Friday. Syrskyi said that Russia is losing roughly 1,000-1,100 soldiers every day, either killed or wounded, with most of the casualties being fatalities. In his words, Russian forces are currently trying to push forward along almost the entire front, with the heaviest clashes occurring near Lyman and Pokrovsk in eastern Donetsk region, around Kupiansk in Kharkiv region, and near Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia region.
Syrskyi explained that Ukraine’s strategy is to wear down Russian forces as much as possible, stop their advances, and maintain control of Ukrainian territory while also striking Russian troops in their near rear, deeper in the operational zone, and even inside Russia to weaken their military and industrial capabilities. Earlier, Ukrainian military reported fierce clashes in embattled Pokrovsk and overall 167 combat clashes with Russian troops on December 4. Being a logistics hub the strategic town of Pokrovsk has been the focal point of clashes between the Ukrainian nd Russin armies. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated via Telegram channel that Russian forces launched 61 airstrikes involving 173 glide bombs, carried out 6,664 artillery attacks, 153 of them from multiple-launch rocket systems, and used 4,480 kamikaze drones during the attacks in the past day. Settlements hit by Russin airstrikes included Shalyhyne in Sumy region and Ternuvate, Huliaipole, Staroukrainka, Stepnohirsk, Hryhorivka, and Veselianka in Zaporizhzhia region.
Ukrainian aviation, missile units, and artillery struck two concentrations of Russian personnel and equipment and destroyed three artillery systems. In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk areas, Russia conducted two airstrikes with five glide bombs and carried out 175 artillery attacks, including five from multiple-launch rocket systems, the General Staff reported.
