Ukraine is increasingly launching strikes deep into Russian territory , targeting oil and gas facilities in particular. As Robert Madyar Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, stated in an interview with the BBC , such attacks will intensify. "The territory 1,500-2,000 kilometers deep into Russia is no longer a ‘peaceful rear.’ The freedom-loving Ukrainian ‘little bird’ flies whenever and wherever it pleases," Madyar told reporters. Brovdi noted that Russian oil and gas facilities are a priority target for Ukrainian strikes. He emphasized that Russia is using oil export revenues to continue its war against Ukraine. "Putin extracts natural resources and turns them into blood dollars, which are then directed against us in the form of Shahed drones and ballistic missiles," Madyar explained. Journalists added that Tuapse residents are complaining of toxic rain following the second wave of major strikes on the local oil refinery in just a few days. Brovdi, however, emphasized that such strikes are justified. "If oil refineries are a tool for making money that is used for war, then they are a legitimate military target that must be destroyed," he told reporters. Journalists added that the Unmanned Systems Forces make up only 2% of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. However, Brovdi shared that they account for a third of all destroyed targets. According to him, the annual loss rate is less than 1%. Madyar also responded to reports that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin wants to seize the entire Donetsk region within a few months. "What is he smoking? It’s unreal. It’s absurd," Brovdi said. He stated that Ukraine’s other priority is reducing Russia’s numerical advantage. Madyar acknowledged that Ukraine is experiencing difficulties with mobilization. "Those who wanted to fight are already fighting," Brovdi emphasized. The commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces said his units received direct orders to kill more enemy soldiers every month than Russia can muster—more than 30,000. "30% of all drone strikes are supposed to target military personnel. You could call it an annihilation plan, and we’re currently exceeding it," Madyar shared. Brovdi emphasized that the Unmanned Systems Force has been implementing this plan for four months now. Furthermore, he noted that the elimination of each occupier must be confirmed by video recording. Journalists believe that this attitude toward Russian troops may seem cruel, but Brovdi recalled that it is Russian troops who are far beyond their borders, and Putin sent them to destroy the Ukrainian nation. "If we don’t kill them, they’ll kill us. That’s clear," Madyar emphasized. According to Brovdi, the goal of the Unmanned Systems Force is to deter the enemy, not to launch new counteroffensives or recapture vast territories. "We have an effective weapon: not to wage an offensive war, but to prevent the enemy from effectively advancing into our territory," he said. Brovdi believes Putin cannot afford to end the war against Ukraine. He says the risks of failure are too great for the Kremlin dictator. The Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces noted that another goal of his units is to undermine Russian morale. He noted that the high casualty rate, coupled with the massive fires raging at facilities deep abroad, could cause panic within Russia. Madyar emphasized that every strike by his units is intended to make more Russians question the war their country is waging against Ukraine, as well as their leader.
