Head of the Azerbaijan-Ural diaspora organization, Shahin Shikhlinski, has been detained in Russia’s Yekaterinburg city as raids on Azerbaijanis continue in Russia. Video footage circulated in social media shows Russian law-enforcers smashing windows of Shikhlinski’s car with hammers, pushing him violently to the ground and applying force on him. Shikhlinski was detained near the Baku Plaza shopping center on Tuesday. "There were a lot of security forces near the shopping center," his son Mutvali Shikhlinski told 66.RU Telegram channel. According to reports, Mutvali was also initially detained and then released.The detention comes amid large-scale raids against ethnic Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijani diaspora members across Russian cities. Earlier today, Russian security forces arrested Azerbaijani diaspora member Yusif Khalilov in Voronezh city. Khlilov is co-owner of Voronezh’s Aleekseevskiy market that has also been raided. Last week two Azerbaijani nationals were killed in their home during FSB raid overnight. The incident deteriorated Baku-Moscow ties.
