Russian law-enforcers have arrested Azerbaijani businessman and a member of Azerbaijani diaspora Yusif Khalilov in Voronezh city amid the increased pressure on Azerbaijanis in the country. Khalilov’s house was raided on Tuesday, days after large-scale inspections in Vornezh in "Alekseevsky" market co-owned by Khalilov. The video posted on Telegram app shows the Russian law-forces break into the businessman’s house. Russian Telegram channels linked the raid to increased attention from federal agencies to Alekseevsky market, reminding that back in June, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Kikot, took control of the situation at the market and ordered a large-scale inspection of the migrant workers’ employment activities. However, the arrest is taking place against the backdrop of deterioration of ties between Russia and Azerbaijan in the past week. On June 28, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Pyotr Volokhvikh over the deadly raids by Russian security forces against five Azerbaijani nationals in Yekaterinburg. The Foreign Ministry said as a result of the raid on June 27 in apartments inhabited by Azerbaijanis, two people were killed, several people were seriously injured, and nine were arrested. In response, Azerbaijan cancelled all cultural events related to Russia and detained alleged Russian spies during the search in Baku office of Russia’s Sputnik news agency on Monday.
