Ukraine launches the largest attack on Moscow since World War II, sending more than 1,000 drones into an increasingly air-defenseless Russian capital and exposing just how vulnerable Russia has become after years of war. Oil facilities, military factories, and other strategic targets across Russia erupted in flames overnight as Moscow’s remaining air defenses struggled to cope with the scale of the assault.
Videos from across Moscow show explosions, smoke columns, and Russian air defense systems firing wildly into residential areas while failing to stop Ukrainian drones. Russians flooded social media complaining that their own air defense units were striking apartment buildings and demanding to know why the government can no longer protect the capital. Major Russian military bloggers openly criticized the Kremlin, while others mocked the government’s attempts to ban footage of Ukrainian drone strikes despite thousands of videos continuing to appear online.
At the same time, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces carried out strikes across an enormous geographic area, including attacks near Dagestan by the Caspian Sea close to Iran, reportedly damaging a ship there while also targeting air defense systems in Crimea and other occupied territories.
As panic spreads, Putin’s press machine has returned to nuclear threats, while even former senior Russian officials now openly admit Ukraine’s long-range strike campaign cannot be stopped and is only becoming more powerful.
Meanwhile, Russia faces growing economic pressure as citizens continue draining money from the banking sector despite desperate pleas from Russia’s top bankers. Vacationers in Crimea discover beaches lined with defensive “dragon’s teeth” fortifications instead of tourists, and reports emerge showing some Russian towns now suffering wartime losses comparable to World War II.
