Series of videos have been shared in social media capturing Ukrainian drone units’ attack on Russian troops on the frontline. The videos capture the struggle of Russian troops as they try to advance in cold weather and under Ukrainian drone attacks from multiple sides. Russian soldiers can be seen moving on two vehicles on a snowy road. One of the vehicles stopped as the driver was injured in his hand. The soldiers dismounted the vehicle and started opening fire at the drones. The road is covered with corpses of Russian soldiers and military equipment that had earlier been hit by Ukrainian drones, suggesting that the road along which Russians are moving is under the control of Ukrainian drones. Yet another social media video features Russian troops’ failed attempt to shoot down Ukrainian drones. A group of Russian soldiers can be seen opening fire at Ukrainian drones with their service guns but fail to down the UAV. The soldiers evacuated their fellow serviceman who was injured in the leg. Their van packed with supplies, was also hit by a drone and caught fire. Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian military targets have become a defining feature of the nearly four-year-war. Using a mix of domestically produced and modified drones, Ukrainian forces have targeted airbases, ammunition depots, radar installations, fuel storage facilities, and command centers deep behind the front lines. Ukraine’s drone attacks are among key factors in Russia’s heavy losses in the war. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, Russia’s military personnel losses killed and wounded are about 1,233,000 as of January 24. Russia has not publicized its losses in its war of invasion that was launched in February 2022.
