NATO chief visits Kyiv after Russia strikes power plants | Ukraine Brief

Russia launched a record overnight missile strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving tens of thousands without heat amid freezing temperatures. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and other regions suffered severe damage, including to thermal power plants, prompting local states of emergency in places such as Kharkiv.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited Kyiv, pledging continued support and security guarantees while acknowledging Ukraine faces difficult choices in pursuit of peace.

The second round of trilateral peace talks begins tomorrow in Abu Dhabi, focusing on the Donbas, Zaporizhzhia, and other unresolved issues, with U.S. envoys attending.

Meanwhile, Sweden and Denmark are donating $290 million in TRIDON Mk2 mobile anti-aircraft systems to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
