Nato fighter jets have shot down a Russian drone heading from Ukraine’s southwestern Odesa city to Romania on the night leading to April 25. As Russia launched another large-scale overnight drone assault against Ukraine, NATO air forces stationed in Romania were placed on alert, prompting the deployment of British fighter jets to monitor and secure the alliance’s airspace. According to the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, Russian unmanned aerial vehicles operating near Ukraine’s border with Romania approached the area around Tulcea County, close to the Ukrainian port city of Reni. In response, a British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon participating in NATO air policing operations was scrambled to track the aerial threat. Romanian officials stated that the fighter jet detected a target roughly 1.5 kilometers from Reni while it remained inside Ukrainian airspace. The crew reportedly received authorization to engage hostile drones if necessary. Following the incident, drone debris was later discovered on Romanian territory. Residents in Galați alerted emergency services after reporting falling fragments in the Bariera Traian district. Authorities later confirmed that pieces of a drone had been located in multiple areas. Initial assessments indicated that a farm structure and an electricity line suffered damage from the falling debris, though no injuries or fatalities were reported. Romania’s Defense Ministry condemned Moscow’s actions, warning that repeated Russian attacks near NATO borders continue to heighten instability in the Black Sea region and represent an ongoing threat to regional security. The incident occurred amid another major Russian missile-and-drone offensive against Ukraine overnight on April 25. Russian forces launched a coordinated strike involving attack drones and multiple missile systems targeting several regions across Ukraine. Preliminary information from Ukraine’s Air Force indicated that the heaviest strikes were aimed at the Kyiv region, central Ukraine, southern territories, and critical infrastructure facilities.
