Ukraine has developed several new tactics for using UAVs on the front lines to counter Russian infantry, Forbes reports. In this way, some large-scale attacks by the invaders on the front line were also stopped.
In particular, journalists note, Ukraine uses drones with loudspeakers to create a false impression for Russians on the battlefield. This could include playing the sounds of military equipment, which entices Russia to launch its reconnaissance drones. This not only wastes Russian resources in the form of disposable drones but also reveals the pilots’ positions. Also, the loudspeakers sometimes broadcast cries and calls for help from Russian soldiers, thus luring Russian infantry out of cover.
Another tactic involves the use of ground-based drones. Russia has been successful in exploiting adverse weather conditions, particularly fog, as UAVs are more difficult to operate in such conditions. To counter this, Ukraine quickly developed a solution in the form of ground-based drones that hide along the Russian troops’ approach routes, monitoring the roads for any vehicles. When they identify Russian traffic, they transmit its location and direction to the UAV pilots.
They, in turn, launched attack UAVs, which destroyed Russian vehicles. According to the publication, this approach destroyed numerous Russian armored vehicles and slowed the occupiers’ advance.
Journalists also noted a tactic in which a disabled Ukrainian UAV became stuck in a load-bearing wall of a building in Pokrovsk. When a Russian soldier approaches the drone to retrieve it, it detonates, causing the building to collapse on the Russian soldiers inside.
Forbes notes that since the very first days of the war, Ukraine has been relying on rapid development, primarily in the field of drones. New models and technologies are almost immediately transferred to the military, who test them on the battlefield. It is this tactic of constant upgrades and rapid adaptation that allows the Ukrainian Armed Forces to hold off the relentless onslaught of the occupiers.
Breaking Defense journalists reported that Ukraine has begun using a unique method of delivering drones to the front lines . Now, the manufacturer is supplying drones directly to soldiers rather than storing them in warehouses.
"There are no more warehouses. Military units can order drones or ground robots on a website called blockchain defense. It’s similar to Amazon. They simply order directly from the manufacturer, and delivery takes place directly from the manufacturer to the military unit on the battlefield," Lyuba Shipovych, head of the volunteer group Dignitas Ukraine, told reporters.
According to her, drone delivery currently takes approximately 24 hours from order to delivery to the front lines. She noted that this eliminates the need for repair shops to upgrade the drones. "Such speed and flexibility is something NATO countries could learn from Ukraine—adapting NATO procedures to the new realities of this war," Shipovich emphasized.
The head of Dignitas Ukraine added that currently, there are only two countries in the world that know how to wage modern warfare: Ukraine and Russia. She assured that Ukraine is ready to share its knowledge with other countries.
