Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian Defense Forces have more than 2.5 times increased their deep strike range deep behind enemy lines. While in 2022 they were able to hit a military target approximately 630 km away, Ukrainian long-range weapons are now successfully destroying enemy military vehicles at a range of approximately 1,750 kilometers. A massive fire has broken out again at an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia. Ukrainian Defense Forces drones have attacked the facility, which supplies the Russian military, for the third time in two weeks. Residents report hearing more than ten loud explosions. The fire continues at the refinery, with thick smoke rising over the city. Burning oil products have begun spilling across the streets and into the river. As Robert Brovdi , Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, noted, Russian oil refineries are legitimate military targets. Such UFF operations demonstrate the UFF’s ability to strike targets deep behind Russian lines. Ukraine’s strike range reaches 1,500-2,000 km. "Putin extracts natural resources and turns them into bloody dollars, which are then used against us in the form of Shahed drones and ballistic missiles. If oil refineries are a tool for profit-making used for military purposes, then they are a legitimate military target to be destroyed," Robert Brovdy told the BBC. Ukrainian Special Operations Forces struck a storage base for Iskander operational-tactical missile systems in occupied Crimea. The strike was carried out by drones from middle-strike units. The enemy equipment was hidden in a former missile base east of Simferopol. From there, Russian occupiers launched missiles at Ukraine, as previously documented by members of the Resistance Movement. "For deep strikes and middle strikes, the Ukrainian Defense Forces employ the tactic of cutting ‘windows’ in the layered Russian air defenses and inserting weapons through these ‘windows’ until they close. Then new ones are opened. It’s worth noting that the time interval between these ‘windows’ is growing longer each time. This indicates that the Russian invaders’ air defense capabilities are no longer as strong as they would like," commented Pavlo Lakiychuk , head of military security programs at the Center for Global Studies "Strategy XXI," on the situation on the front. Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense recalled the deep strikes against Russia, which were significant for Ukraine: In December 2022, Ukraine struck the Engels-2 airbase in the Saratov region, one of the key airfields for Russian strategic aviation. The attack damaged two Tu-95MS bombers, capable of carrying cruise missiles. To strike this strategic target, Ukrainian deep strike assets covered approximately 650 km—a record distance for the first year of a full-scale invasion. It is worth noting that the Dyagilevo airbase in the Ryazan region of the Russian Federation was hit at the same time. On April 2, 2024, the Shahed production plant in the Alabuga special economic zone was attacked for the first time. On May 9, the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery was damaged. That is, 2024 became the year when Ukraine began the transition to systemic long-range strikes against targets of the Russian military machine. In February 2026, units of the Security Service of Ukraine and other components of the Defense Forces struck the Ukhta Oil Refinery in the Komi Republic of Russia. The refinery is located approximately 1,750 km from the state border. In 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to systematically carry out strikes both near and far in the rear to force the aggressor to make peace. Specifically, the Bashneft-Novoil and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim refineries were struck in Ufa, approximately 1,400 km away. The Defense Ministry also recalled that in March of this year alone, five strategic plants and 10 oil refineries in Russia were hit. The operations covered territory from the temporarily occupied Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, to the deep rear areas of the Russian Federation, including the Leningrad Region. As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted , the development of deep strike is one of the state’s defense priorities. "Today, our deep strikes are no longer a sensation, although each time they are very fair and very welcome news. Today, our Ukrainian drones have fundamentally changed the approach to warfare. Of course, we are attacking what is painful for Russia. And this is very painful. We see the consequences. Today, their losses are already measured in tens of billions. These are critical losses for Russia," the Ukrainian head of state emphasized.
