During a meeting with representatives of Dagestan, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin effectively let slip the presence of fascism in the Russian army. During this meeting, a transcript of which was published on the Kremlin website, Dagestani parliament speaker Zaur Askenderov spoke about four local deputies who had gone to war against Ukraine, and one of these deputies now allegedly does not want to return home because he "saw blatant fascism there." "You know, I went there with humanitarian aid and saw outright fascism there," Askenderov recounted the words of that same Russian occupier. Putin, reacting to this statement, began to clarify with Askenderov on whose side the deputy saw fascism, thereby admitting the presence of fascism in the Russian army.
"On the other side?" asked the dictator. “On the other side,” answered Askenderov. It should be noted that accusations of "fascism" against Ukraine are a central element of the Kremlin’s propaganda narrative, which is actively used by the aggressor country to justify the war it unleashed.

Recently, The New York Times identified at least seven classic symptoms of a fascist state in Russia. A corresponding article by Yale University professor and renowned historian specializing in Eastern Europe, Timothy Snyder, was published by the influential publication.
Snyder concluded that modern Russia exhibits seven key criteria of fascism : the cult of the leader in the person of the irreplaceable Vladimir Putin; the cult of those who died for something great. This something was the Great Patriotic War, which gave birth to the concept of "victory madness." the myth of the greatness of the empire, the desire to return it; powerful and comprehensive state propaganda; the emergence of a visual symbol of the fascist regime and a sign of belonging to it – we are talking about Z and V; mass events in support of the leader; hate speech directed at specific groups of people. These primarily include Ukrainians, so-called "liberals," "Anglo-Saxons," and others. The historian also noted the existence in Russia of practices that are traditional for fascist regimes. For example, ideas are being instilled in Russia that Moscow has the right to colonize other peoples and territories, that it is infallible due to its heroic past, and that war is inevitable. The article was commented on Telegram by Russian journalist and ardent critic of the Putin regime Alexander Nevzorov, who was forced to flee Russia. He agrees with the historian’s opinion. " Snyder has listed all the textbook symptoms of real fascism here, without adding or subtracting anything. Yes, there is fascism in Russia. It’s as easily diagnosed as syphilis or leprosy. There’s no room for error ," he wrote.

Ukrainian political analyst Roman Rukomeda says taht Russian army is destroying historical monuments not only linked to the history of Ukraine but of World War II and the Holocaust. Still, their leaders have the arrogance of accusing Ukraine of fascism. Russian war criminals show total aggression and destructive behaviour toward those symbols of WWII that they continue to call “sacred” on TV channels inside their country. In their blind madness against Ukraine and the civilised world, Russian invaders attack memorials and monuments on Ukrainian territory.
