Recently, the seemingly unthinkable has happened in Russia: Z-patriots have exploded with sharp criticism of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. This isn’t a "thaw," but rather a manifestation of a "quiet rebellion" among the Kremlin’s elites. Igor Dimitriev, a former Odessa City Council member who betrayed Ukraine and defected to Russia, wrote about this in his blog.
A telling example was the case of informant Ilya Remeslo, who dared to accuse Putin of treason. He was not arrested or liquidated, as might have been expected after such harsh words. Instead, Remeslo spent a couple of weeks in a psychiatric hospital, after which he was calmly released and continued his rhetoric about the Russian dictator. “There is indeed a quiet rebellion within the elite,” Dimitriev wrote. He did not rule out that a “castling” would soon occur in the Russian elite. “This does not guarantee a softening of domestic policy and peace with the West and Ukraine, but quite the opposite,” Dimitriev suggested. He expressed the opinion that a full-scale war against Ukraine was a big mistake for Putin. "Remember the cry ‘Akela missed!’ from ‘Mowgli’? It’s somewhat reminiscent of what’s happening in Russia now. Putin has long had a reputation that he sees everything, knows everything, that he can solve any problem with a single word, that he can change presidents in the post-Soviet space with a flick of his eyebrow… Similarly, in medieval Europe, kings and konungs were considered almost saintly… But if luck ran out on konungs or kings, it was believed that divine grace had abandoned them, and then that was it, they could be overthrown," Dmitriev wrote. The collaborator stated that the "halo of sanctity" surrounding Putin is "slowly crumbling." This means he won’t be able to remain in power for long.
It’s wrong to say Putin is at war with Ukraine, since in reality, all of Russia is at war, Russian opposition leader Garry Kasparov said. However, the politician emphasized that anyone who attacks another country must be prepared for just retribution, which will inevitably come. "I start to feel sick when I hear the debate continue: is this Russia’s war or Putin’s? Someone is pushing the buttons, understand. It’s not Putin who’s pushing the buttons. How long can we listen to some of the so-called Russian opposition pretending that it’s all Putin’s fault? No, Russia is waging this war, and the majority of the population is participating. Maybe some people aren’t participating of their own free will. Maybe they don’t want to, maybe they don’t like it, but I’m sure that those who turned on the gas taps in Auschwitz weren’t all thrilled about it either. And what difference does that make? " the politician exclaimed indignantly. Kasparov then pointed out an important nuance that many overlook: "It always happens like this: if you go to Coventry or Pearl Harbor, you know that everything will return to Dresden or Tokyo. Of course, it’s all terrible, but it’s fair. A dictator doesn’t start a war just by his own volition: there’s a demand for it. It’s perfectly clear that there’s a growing demand in Russian society for this ‘victorious war.’ There was a war in Chechnya, too. Incidentally, there were more protests then. Remember, Nemtsov collected a million signatures back then. There was a war, but there was protest. Where is the protest here? Now they’ll say Putin ‘tightened the screws.’ But how did that happen? And where were you at that moment?".
