Ukrainian fighters have pushed Russian troops back to the north of Ambarne village, located close to the state border in the Kupiansk district of northeastern Kharkiv region, according to analysis from the DeepState monitoring platform. The report states that Ukrainian units have re-established control in areas around Ambarne. DeepState notes that Ukrainian troops advanced more than 3 kilometers toward the international border and regained positions in forested terrain north of Ambarne, within the Velykyi Burluk community of Kupiansk district. The operation was reportedly carried out by elements of the 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade, which cleared Russian forces from woodland areas near Ambarne and secured the territory. Ukrainian fighters also succeeded in stopping Russian attempts to advance from Milove toward Khatnie in the same operational area. Recent reports indicate an uptick in Russian military activity in the Kharkiv region. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said Russian units tried to cross the state border near Dihtiarne, but Ukrainian forces repelled the assault and eliminated more than 20 attackers. Separately, Russian troops have also attempted to expand their operational reach toward the nearby settlements of Krugle and Buhruvatka. Viktor Trehubov, head of communications for the Joint Forces Group, stated that Russian forces are actively probing Ukrainian defensive lines in search of weak points and continuing attempts to breach border areas in the Kharkiv region, with fighting ongoing. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the South Slobozhanskyi sector over the past day, Russian forces launched two unsuccessful attempts to break through Ukrainian positions toward Starytsia and Vovchansk. The military situation around Kharkiv remains tense and strategically important due to its proximity to the Russian border, making it a frequent target in the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian forces maintain control of the city itself, but the surrounding region continues to experience intermittent clashes, artillery exchanges, and aerial attacks. Russian forces have not captured Kharkiv, yet they exert constant pressure through missile strikes, guided bombs, and drone attacks launched from across the border and nearby occupied or contested areas. Ukrainian troops have been making ground in the frontline, with Russian troops failing to record considerable territorial gains in March this year. Over the last month, Russia appears to have gained just 23 square kilometers of territory, a figure that includes areas reached through infiltration beyond the front line as well as advances reported by Moscow but not independently verified by the Institute for the Study of War
