The 425th “Skala” regiment under the Ukrainian armed forces has disrupted Russian army unit’s attempt to advance near embattled Pokrovsk city in eastern Donetsk region. Video footage of the operation has been shared in social media. Video shows drones strikes on the military column consisting of various types armored military vehicles, including motorcycles. The surviving Russian soldiers thought to flee but were destroyed by kamikaze drones. Advancing with a column of dozens of units of equipment, Russians tried to move into the rear of the Ukrainian forces. However, the Skala brigade intercepted the Russian column in time. Through joint efforts of various “Skala” units, the column was destroyed and Russians’ advance was stopped.
Being a key transport and logistics hub, Pokrovsk has been targeted by Russian troops for more than a year. Ukrainian military says its troops are still holding out in Pokrovsk desite Russia’s advances. Capture of Pokrovsk, wich is dubbed as the gateway to Donetsk by the Russian media, would grant Russia an opportunity to drive north toward the remaining Ukrainian-cotrolled cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk in Donetsk. Russian forces have been stepping up pressure on the city with heavy attacks, frequent combat engagements, and attempts to advance. Kyiv and Moscow have traded claims about who holds key parts of the city. Russia says it has seized full control, while Ukraine insists its troops still hold positions in the city’s northern districts and continue to resist Russian advances.
