South Africa deputy FM: We need to stay vigilant towards Russian military trafficking | Alvin Botes

At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey, TVP World News Director Adam Jasser spoke with Alvin Botes, Deputy Foreign Minister of South Africa, about Russia, global tensions, and their impact on the country.

The conversation addresses reports of Africans being recruited to fight for Putin in Ukraine, with Botes stressing the need for vigilance despite Russia’s denials of the practice.

He also discusses the influence of the war in Iran on his country, namely Africa’s economic challenges, including rising food prices, fertilizer shortages, and the growing cost of living.

Botes goes on to reflect on relations with the United States and the broader principle of non-alignment, while emphasizing the importance of cooperation through multilateral institutions. He also questions the narrative around Iran’s nuclear ambitions and highlights how conflicts beyond the continent directly affect African economies and trade routes.
