Over the course of a month, Ukrainian intelligence officers conducted several operations in the annexed Crimea and the Black Sea – radar stations, anti-aircraft missile systems and more were destroyed. KrymRealii found out how this happened, what the results were and why the activity of the special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine increased several times.
On September 8, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that the agency’s special forces had destroyed two elements of the Russian air defense system in annexed Crimea. The strikes were carried out on the eve of Military Intelligence Day of Ukraine, which is celebrated on September 7. The exact date was not specified.
According to the report, the unmanned systems control units of the Department of Active Operations destroyed the 48Ya6-K1 Podlet radar station and the RLM-M module from the 55Zh6M Nebo-M complex. According to reports from Telegram channels , explosions were heard on the Crimean peninsula on the night of September 5-6 – in Feodosia, Dzhankoysky, Kirovsky and Leninsky districts.
On the evening of September 2, five explosions were heard in Alushta, after which a fire broke out in the mountains above the village of Lazurnoye, in the Kastel nature reserve, the Krymsky Veter Telegram channel reported , noting that “Russian military unit 85683-L is located there – a subdivision of the 3rd radiotechnical regiment, with a noticeable radar with a white dome.” The mobile radar 48Ya6-K1 "Podlet" is used to detect air targets at low and extremely low altitudes in a complex jamming environment. The approximate cost of one destroyed radar complex, designed, in particular, to provide target designation for the S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, is 5 million dollars.
The 48Ya6-K1 Podlet or Podlet-K1 radar is one of the latest radar models to enter service with the Russian Air Defense Forces in recent times. Even more expensive is the 55Zh6M Nebo-M system, which costs $100 million. The system was adopted by the Russian Armed Forces in 2012 and is one of the newest. The exact cost of the destroyed RLM-M module is unknown, but it could be between $20 and $30 million. According to a reserve officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian army will experience problems with replacing these rare radars, which, in the opinion of the specialist, will have to be transferred to the annexed peninsula from Russia. It is worth noting that the operations of the GUR special forces in the annexed Crimea have significantly increased over the past four to five weeks.
