As Ukraine continues to face rolling blackouts, U.S. President Donald Trump says he spoke with Vladimir Putin, who he claims agreed to pause attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for one week.
While Trump called the move a victory, the Kremlin confirmed the ceasefire is limited and could end ahead of tentative peace talks planned for Sunday, as freezing temperatures grip the country. Despite the announced “energy ceasefire,” Ukrainian officials say Moscow has shifted its focus to targeting frontline logistics.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is strengthening international defense ties, holding talks with Poland on air defense, drone development, and possible fighter jet transfers. In Kyiv, Ukraine’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by former President Petro Poroshenko seeking to overturn sanctions imposed against him.
