Friday saw talks held between U.S. envoy John Coale and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. President Donald Trump had tasked Coale with negotiating the release of political prisoners in Belarus. Among those considered for release is Andrzej Poczobut, a Polish-Belarusian journalist and activist who was jailed four years ago and is still awaiting release.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders in Berlin this weekend, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. Originally, Paris was slated to host the meeting on Saturday, but those plans have reportedly been scrapped.
A free economic zone in the Donbas region could work, said U.S. President Donald Trump. The idea of both Russia and Ukraine leaving the region to become a demilitarized zone where U.S. businesses could operate was put forward in a revised peace plan sent by Kyiv to Washington.
