In order to deliver effective strikes on Crimea , Ukraine must first knock out the enemy’s air defense system there. Lieutenant General and former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko told Radio NV about this.
"First we need to blind them, knock out the radar stations that conduct aerial reconnaissance. Disrupt the communications system, undermine the control of the systems," Romanenko said.
The expert added that after the destruction of the Russian air and missile defense potential, Ukraine will be able to deliver more effective strikes against the enemy.
"And then there will be more active actions on our part – landings, sabotage, strikes with our weapons, air, sea. This is not a one-time organization of combat actions or operations. But this is a systemic approach, during which consistent action is ensured. And we see this during the strikes on Crimea every time. And the effectiveness of the actions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces increases from this," Romanenko added.
On the night of July 7, Combat drones operated by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have destroyed several Russian targets in occupied Crimea, including radar stations in domes, a landing craft and an air defence base on Mount Ai-Petri.
"The demilitarisation of temporarily occupied Crimea continues – evading the invaders’ missiles, combat drones from the Prymary special unit of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine successfully struck a Russian 02510 BK-16 landing craft”, said Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. İt added that the drones had also destroyed the Nebo-SVU, Podlyot K-1 and 96L6E radar stations.
They noted that after the destruction of air defence assets on the peninsula, including by the Prymary unit, Russian troops in Crimea began concealing military facilities in dome-like structures.
"One such dome was hit by military intelligence special forces on Ai-Petri, where the Russians had placed an air defence base belonging to the 3rd Radio-Technical Regiment", Defence Intelligence of Ukraine concluded.
Drones operated by Ukraine’s Security Service struck five Russian fighter jets overnight on Aug. 4 at an airfield in Saky, a city in Russian-occupied Crimea, the agency said.
Ukrainian drones, in a Special Operations Center "A" mission, destroyed a Su-30SM aircraft, damaged another, hit three Su-24s, and struck an aviation weapons depot.
The Saky airbase plays a critical role in Russia’s military operations in the Black Sea, and the damage from the Ukrainian strike is considered "significant," with a single Su-30SM jet valued between $35 million and $50 million, according to the SBU. "The successful special operation carried out by the SBU in Saky marks another step toward weakening the enemy’s capacity to wage its war of aggression against Ukraine," SBU said.
