Russia has violated the U.S.-brokered three-day Victory Day ceasefire with attacks across the country, according to Ukrainian officials.
Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin said on Saturday he thought the war in Ukraine is coming to an end. He also suggested that he was ready for direct talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, though he also mentioned several preconditions for this meeting to take place.
Nearly 400 firefighters and emergency crews were deployed on Saturday to control a large forest fire in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, in Ukraine’s Kyiv region. The fire was originally triggered by a Russian drone strike and came at a time of a major drought affecting large parts of Europe.
