The 3rd Army Corps of Ukrainian Ground forces have captured a position of Russian troops who infiltrated into a forested area within the operational zone of the Corps. The Ukrainians carried out a coordinated strike-and-search mission aimed at clearing the area and preventing further Russian movement. Video footage shared in social media shows the operation by the Ukrainian troops. As the Ukrainian troops advanced toward a Russian hideout, heavy exchange of fire took place. Despite multiple warnings and calls for surrender, the Russian troops in the area continued to resist. During the firefight, one of the Ukrainian soldiers launched a small drone to scout the area and improve situational awareness. In a later phase of the clash near a dugout, one Ukrainian serviceman was injured but was quickly pulled back for evacuation and received immediate first aid. The position was then suppressed using grenades and sustained small-arms fire. Eventually, the Ukrainian unit gained control of the location. Two Russian servicemen were found at the site: one had been killed during the fighting, while the other ultimately surrendered. Earlier today, the 3rd Army Corps, which is a military formation within the Southern Military District, refuted Russian Defence Ministry’s reports about the Kremlin’s full capture of Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk region. In a statement, the 3rd Army Corps stressed that it controls the settlements in the region. It also released footage of strike and search operations being carried out by units of the 3rd Assault Brigade in the 3rd Corps’ sector near the village of Novoyegorivka in Luhansk, which along with Donetsk, is part of the industrial Donbas region.
