Ukrainian drone strikes have increasingly become a source of concern inside Russia, as repeated attacks on energy facilities, military infrastructure, and logistics hubs have exposed vulnerabilities in the country’s defenses and created a sense of uncertainty among officials and the public. Major-General Apti Alaudinov, a Russian–Chechen military officer and one of the more prominent figures involved in Russia’s war against Ukraine, has expressed concerns over new Ukrainian drones that he said are jointly produced by Ukraine, France and Germany. Alaudinov said in a video interview that after the drones were studied in a laboratory, it was revealed that the updated drones fly farther than the previous ones used by the Ukrainian army in the war against Russia. “We are also adjusting our work to each of their new tricks. Our guys shoot down a huge number of drones every day,” Alaudinov claimed. He explained that around 3,500 drones were destroyed by Russian electronic warfare units alone over the past two and a half months. “Saying that Ukraine has fewer drones now would probably be a lie. They are all being supplied – they are still receiving ample support,” the senior military official said. He pledged to do “everything possible to destroy the enemy and make it clear that no matter what new systems they try to develop or bring to the front, it will not force us to abandon our goals and objectives.” Ukraine’s increased drone warfare has also been highlighted by military bloggers in Russia. According to pro-war blogger Sergey Kolyasnikov, the situation on the battlefield has changed significantly due to advancements in drone technology, with Ukraine introducing a new class of systems that are causing major disruptions to logistics.
He said that, based on available information, these drones can function continuously in both daylight and darkness. They are extremely quiet, becoming noticeable only moments before impact when they descend on a target. Traditional detection tools reportedly fail to pick them up, and they appear largely unaffected by electronic countermeasures. He also emphasized that their construction is of a very high standard, indicating they are mass-produced, professional-grade military equipment.
Kolyasnikov further suggested that some versions might not rely on human operators at all, but instead use artificial intelligence for control. He added that if they are deployed with the help of relay aircraft connected through systems like Starlink, their operational reach could extend over long distances. He described the drones as exceptionally fast, to the point that escaping them would be virtually impossible.
