In southern Ukraine, Russian troops are attempting to bypass Huliaipole and encircle the city. Simultaneously, the enemy is deploying sabotage groups on the frontline near Stepnogorsk .
However, Ukrainian units managed to seize the tactical initiative, Southern Defense Forces spokesman Vladislav Voloshin told Channel 24 . According to him, Ukrainian forces continue to destroy enemy firing positions and are gradually regaining control of captured areas.
"The southern front is currently the hottest battlefield. In the southwest direction from Hulyaipole, near Zheleznodorozhny and Charivne, approximately 30 clashes have occurred in the past 24 hours. The enemy is attempting to advance toward Zaporizhzhia," Voloshin said.
According to him, fighting continues within Hulyaipole itself: the enemy is attempting to force Ukrainian defenders out of key positions with fire.
"We’re establishing logistics in these areas, especially near Stepnogorsk. The enemy views this area as a key area and is using sabotage groups rather than full-fledged assault forces," he explained. However, Voloshin noted, Ukrainian units were able to regain the initiative and control of their positions through counterattacks. Holding a settlement requires not only a defensive and assault force, but also the establishment of fortification groups, logistics, and communications. "Such methodical actions allow us to build a sustainable defense and regain control of territory. We also destroy enemy firepower that could threaten logistics and our assault units," he added.
Ihor Burdeyny, commander of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Transcarpathian Army, announced that Russian occupiers are likely abandoning their offensive on Stepnogorsk in the Zaporizhia region, where the enemy has suffered heavy losses. "Regarding the village of Stepnogorsk, I want to assure you that it is completely under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The enemy is attempting to demonstrate its presence in this area. They are doing this by launching artillery strikes and using FPV drones. The enemy itself is virtually nonexistent in the village. They have suffered significant losses in this area and are likely abandoning it," the military officer stated.
The enemy is likely seeking new avenues for offensive operations. According to Burdeyny, the enemy will likely attempt offensive operations in the center of the zone where the brigade’s troops are holding the line—the direction of the settlements of Lukyanivka and Pavlovka. Currently, he says, the situation there is completely under control, and there is no enemy presence. "Ukrainian troops are stationed in other settlements, particularly Malye Shcherbaky and Stepovoye, so we have complete control over the situation in this area," the brigade commander emphasized.
He noted that the enemy has withdrawn the units located in the Stepnogorsk direction, will likely replenish their forces, and then use them in other areas. At the same time, Burdeyny added, the Russians are looking for weak points in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defenses. According to him, at the moment, in the 128th Brigade’s area of responsibility, the enemy is only using equipment to evacuate the wounded.
As the military man added, in order to demonstrate their presence, the Russians are operating in small groups, but they are unable to advance. Stepnogorsk is of strategic importance for both Ukrainian troops and the Russian army. Sergei Skibchik, head of communications for the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade, stated that Stepnogorsk is a point from which the occupiers could cut off the Komishuvakh-Tavriyskoye-Orekhov logistics route, which could pose a major problem for Ukrainian Armed Forces logistics.
