Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces centers have eliminated a Russian assault group on the Kursk front near the state border of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Special Operations Forces also reported that soldiers of the 6th Ranger Regiment of the Special Operations Forces have killed a Russian group and captured one soldier.
The enemy group was attempting to assault the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces in Sumy region. The Special Operations Forces fighters offered the invaders a chance to surrender, guaranteeing them safety, medical aid, food, and water.
Upon refusal, the Rangers launched a special operation. At sunrise, they swiftly completed the mission: four Russian soldiers were eliminated, and one was taken prisoner.
As reported, Russian forces plan to capture Sumy region, which currently includes a so-called “grey zone”.
Recall, Russian force of about 70,000 troops is advancing toward Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy Oblast, posing a growing threat to the city of Sumy and nearby Kharkiv.
However, unlike in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops were up against unfortified positions, Sumy Oblast has a proper line of defense.
Russia continues to make incremental gains in the Sumy sector, using overwhelming manpower and intense assaults, DeepState analyst Roman Pohorylyi said. According to him, Russian forces have already seized 10 villages in the oblast.
On June 4, DeepState also reported that Russia’s advances were primarily driven by large waves of infantry. The situation could become critical if Russian forces begin targeting Sumy with FPV drones using fiber-optic guidance systems.
