At dawn, the tank crew with Ukraine’s 3rd Tank Brigade closed in and destroyed Russian positions in a forest strip on the Kupiansk front. Ihor Romanenko, press officer of the 3rd Separate Tank Brigade, shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The situation is hot in the Kupiansk sector. The enemy is constantly trying to storm the positions of all the brigades holding the defense in this area. From 5 to 10 assault actions take place daily," noted Romanenko.
According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding their positions in the Kupiansk sector and putting up strong resistance.
"İn one of the areas where the enemy had made a slight advance, our tank, working in tandem with an armored personnel carrier, repelled the attack. They then moved into the forest strep where the enemy had gathered and engaged them at close range, clearing the position," Romanenko said.
Ukraine’s defence forces have destroyed up to 2000 Russian tanks and more than 2,500 armoured combat vehicles since the beginning of 2025. Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this recently. Syrskyi stressed that Ukrainian soldiers continue to destroy Russian equipment and posted a video showing Russian armoured vehicles being wiped out.
Last year, Russia began using motorcycles, dirt bikes, electric scooters and civilian cars for frontal attacks on Ukrainian positions.
Observers say the downgrading reflects a growing trend that significantly hobbles Russia’s already slow advance on the war’s main theatre – the southeastern Donbas region.
Military analysts have told that the Ukrainian army has already destroyed a lion’s share of Russia’s tanks and armoured vehicles.
The shortage is increasingly hard to replenish, even as Moscow digs into mammoth Soviet-era stocks to refurbish decommissioned and dysfunctional vehicles.
“Armoured vehicles are being put out of use with a horrifying speed,” Nikolay Mitrokhin, a researcher with Germany’s Bremen University, told. “The production of new ones and the restoration of damaged or mothballed ones is far behind the losses,” and Russia’s park of armoured vehicles for the offence will last “mere months,” he said. Meanwhile, there are “colossal” problems with delivering supplies to the front line as ubiquitous Ukrainian drones destroy armoured cargo vehicles and civilian cars, he said.
