Protests that began in Iran on December 28 are continuing to grow. In the city of Asadabad, clashes erupted between protesters and government forces over the sharp depreciation of the national currency and rising prices. In Tehran, Isfahan, Hamadan, Babol, and other cities, demonstrators took to the streets chanting slogans against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, indicating that economic slogans have shifted toward political ones.
It should be noted that the national currency, the rial, has fallen to a historic low. Amid the protests, the head of the Central Bank has resigned. In Hamadan and Tehran, protesters entered administrative buildings, removed portraits of Khamenei, and raised flags without Islamic symbols.
Reports say that as a result of the clashes, there have been injuries—and even fatalities—among both police officers and protesters.
