Why is Belgium protecting Russia’s frozen billions? | World News Tonight

Our main stories tonight:
– Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever is facing accusations tonight of putting national interests over European security as he refuses to budge on releasing Russia’s frozen assets. At the same time, Prime Minister De Wever has suggested he feels personally intimidated by the Kremlin while warning that the idea of Russia losing the war in Ukraine is a complete illusion.

– Another week, another closure of Lithuania’s Vilnius Airport due to smuggling balloons carrying cigarettes across the border with Russia-ally Belarus. In fact, the runway has now been forced shut more than a dozen times since October… with officials calling the incursions part of Moscow’s hybrid war. However, despite Lithuania’s full NATO membership, there has been little backlash from the alliance so far.

– Poland has picked up a formal invite to the high-powered G20 summit in the United States. After joining the so-called trillion-dollar club earlier this year, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Warsaw can now take its rightful place at the table in 2027.
