CHP said the 61-year-old driver, identified as Jack Jensen of Sonora, was traveling around 12:08 a.m. on westbound Peppermint Circle with a 54-year-old woman as the passenger in his car.

Jensen failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the roadway and then hit a tree.

According to CHP, the car continued and then hit another tree. The man then reversed his vehicle in an easterly direction and then hit a wooden utility pole.

During the investigation, CHP determined that Jensen was driving under the influence and arrested him.

Jensen was taken to the Tuolumne County jail and booked on felony charges, CHP said.

The crash remains under investigation.
