BELMONT, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Authorities said they’re investigating a domestic assault that happened between a brother and sister Tuesday afternoon in downtown Belmont.
Around 2:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a possible shooting at a home on 33 N. Main Street. When officers arrived, they reportedly found a woman with visible facial injuries and bleeding. She was conscious and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Also inside the home was her 62-year-old brother, who had minor scratches. He was taken to the hospital as well after complaining of pain in his side, police said.
According to early statements, the woman told police that her brother assaulted her and fired a gun at her. No one was reportedly shot, and police said they have not yet recovered a firearm.
Detectives are still speaking with both siblings at the hospital to get a clearer picture of what happened. Officers said this appears to be an isolated family incident, and there is no danger to the public. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
