RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A naked man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after attempting to steal a car near Atlantic Avenue.
Around 2:20 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious person in the 4100 block of Atlantic Avenue. According to two witnesses at the scene, a male suspect with no clothes on was seen walking around holding a wooden post.
The suspect approached one of the witnesses who had just exited and locked his vehicle, demanding access to the vehicle and for the witness to drop everything he was carrying. When the witness complied, the suspect then hit him with the wooden post.
The naked man then approached the other witness, who was sitting in her car eating lunch and struck her in the arm with the post. He then pulled her out the car and tried to drive away, but was unable to shift the car out of park, according to investigators.
After being unsuccessful in the attempt, the suspect ran into a wooded area nearby and hid in a storage unit behind 4000 Atlantic Avenue.
Police responded, using K-9 officers and drones to locate the man for several hours.
Investigators said that the suspect was later found near an apartment complex. A CBS 17 crew on scene said he was taken away in an ambulance in the custody of law enforcement without incident.
According to Raleigh police, criminal charges are forthcoming.
