KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead and another is seriously injured following a wrong-way crash late Tuesday night that left parts of US 50 Highway closed for several hours in Lee’s Summit.
According to the Lee’s Summit Police Department, at about 11:20 p.m., officers and emergency personnel were called to the westbound lanes of 50 Highway, east of the 291 Highway north interchange, on reports of an injury crash.
When crews arrived, they reported finding two cars involved in a head-on crash.
Initial investigations indicate that one of the cars had been driving on the wrong side of the highway and crashed into the other head-on.
The driver who had been driving on the wrong side of 50 Highway was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
According to MoDOT Kansas City, the crash left the westbound lanes of 50 Highway closed until about 4:15 a.m.
The name of the driver who died has not been released as police are still trying to get in contact with their next of kin.
