KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Independence firefighters are at the scene of a deadly fire Friday morning in the area of N. Lake City Valley Road and E. Bundschu Road in the far eastern portion of the city.
Independence Fire Battalion Chief Eric Michel said crews were called just after 5 a.m. where heavy fire was reported at a farmhouse, forcing crews to begin an aggressive attack.
One person died, two other people were hurt, one critically and one seriously, and an Independence firefighter was hurt after falling down two flights of stairs while conducting a search.
