BMW has officially revealed the Speedtop, a rare and exclusive new grand tourer that blends cutting edge design, advanced technology and classic power. Drawing inspiration from the Skytop concept introduced last year, the Speedtop is being produced in a strictly limited edition of just 70 units and will debut this weekend at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2025 in Italy.
The new model is built on the same platform as the Skytop, maintaining the dramatic shark-nose front end with V-shaped lines, signature lighting elements and a glowing front grille. The Speedtop also offers more boot space than its predecessor, a nod to functionality within its sleek, luxurious profile.
The vehicle’s paintwork features a refined gradient, starting with a rich burgundy known as Sunstone Maroon at the front and fading into Sundown Silver toward the rear. The central “spline” element, which runs along the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler, enhances the flowing look of the design. Exclusive 14-spoke two-tone wheels have been crafted specifically for this model.
Inside, the car is furnished with two tone leather in Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White, with the external spline design echoed through ambient interior lighting. The boot is also fully trimmed and features bespoke Schedoni luggage made exclusively for the Speedtop.
BMW has kept technical details under wraps but confirmed that the Speedtop will house the brand’s most powerful V8 engine to date. Automotive experts speculate it will be a 4.4 litre twin turbocharged V8 capable of producing 617 horsepower, the same found in the Skytop concept.
The Speedtop will not be sold in the United States and is expected to be priced well beyond the reach of most buyers. While BMW has not officially stated the cost, estimates suggest it could exceed £200,000 (approximately $255,000 USD), based on similar limited edition models from the brand.
This unveiling follows last year’s enthusiastic reception of the Skytop at Villa d’Este, which prompted BMW to put 50 units into very limited production. Now, with the Speedtop, the German automaker is once again appealing to elite collectors with a taste for performance, beauty and exclusivity.
Meanwhile, the automotive market continues to shift rapidly. In April, Chinese manufacturer BYD overtook Tesla in European electric car sales, marking a turning point in the EV landscape. While Western automakers scramble to reclaim ground in China using domestic software, BMW’s focus on ultra premium internal combustion models serves as a reminder that luxury and legacy still have their place — even as the future accelerates towards electrification.
