US optimistic ceasefire in reach as Gazan war death toll climbs | ABC NEWS

The Israeli military says five IDF soldiers have been killed by improvised explosive devices in Beit Hanun to the north of the Gaza strip. Gazan health authorities say Israeli strikes have killed more than 50 people in 24 hours.
Israeli media is reporting the country’s defense minister Israel Katz wants to build a camp for Palestinians on the ruins of Rafah in Gaza’s south, raising concerns of mass displacement of the population.
The White House remains optimistic an Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal is within reach, but according to mediators in Qatar peace talks are yet to begin.
