Russian troops continued their offensive in the north of Sumy Oblast, but made no confirmed progress. At the same time, Russian war correspondents claim that Putin’s soldiers managed to reach the southern outskirts of Yunakovka. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War have announced the situation in Sumy region on August 23-24. For these two days, Putin’s army continued to attack the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Sumy Oblast, including the Yunakovka area. The Dnieper group of Ukrainian troops reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had thwarted an attempt by the Russian SRG to cross the state border in the Prokhody area. The Z-channel, associated with the Northern Group of Russian Forces, announced the day before that the command of the 237th Airborne Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces ordered attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the eastern part of Yunakovka across an open field. At the same time, some officers of the Russian Armed Forces expressed their protest against such an order. In the end, the attacks were carried out, during which the 237th Airborne Regiment lost up to 80% of its personnel. It is currently on rest and recovery. The enemy is in a difficult situation in the Bessalovka area, since the Russian Armed Forces do not have logistics routes either to or from the settlement. In this section of the front, the 76th Airborne Division is fighting in the Yunakovka area, and the 30th Motorized Rifle Regiment continues to fight in the north of Sumy region.
Earlier, Ukrainian troops carried out a successful counterattack and liberated three villages in Donetsk Oblast from Russian occupiers: Mykhailivka, Zeleny Gai and Vladimirovka. This was reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrsky. The operation was carried out in the Pokrovsky direction, one of the hottest sections of the front, where the Russian army concentrated its main forces. The liberation of these settlements became an important tactical achievement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and allowed them to stabilize the defense line. Syrsky personally arrived in the combat zone to listen to the commanders, assess the situation on the spot and present awards to the soldiers of the 25th Airborne, 68th Jaeger, 32nd and 155th Mechanized Brigades for their fortitude, courage and selfless service. The Commander-in-Chief also stated that the issues of additional provision of units with ammunition, drones and electronic warfare equipment have already been resolved. According to Syrsky, the Ukrainian army continues to heroically hold the defense, despite the enemy’s numerical superiority. According to open sources and Russian Telegram channels, the Russian Armed Forces are suffering colossal losses in manpower and equipment. Large assault units were recently thrown into battle, but instead of success, they ended up in an operational encirclement.
