A powerful explosion and fire have occurred at the “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” plant in the city of Nizhnekamsk, according to local Telegram channels. The preliminary cause of the explosion is believed to be a technical malfunction in the plant’s equipment. As a result of the incident, a production workshop was damaged, and at least 10 people were injured. Firefighters and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The number of injured is expected to rise. The explosion and the intense fire were visible from different parts of the city. Local authorities have confirmed the incident. Although the blast was felt in nearby buildings, no civilian casualties among residents have been reported. The Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant is one of the largest producers of synthetic rubber and plastics in Russia and Europe. Its main products include polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, various types of rubber, and ethylene.
