The sudden rise of Grzegorz Braun’s Confederation of the Polish Crown is less about governing and more about voters sending a message to the political establishment. Leszek Jażdżewski, editor-in-chief of LIBERTÉ!, describes Braun’s party as openly extremist, anti-Semitic, and pro-Russian – but says its appeal lies in being uncompromising and firmly outside the political system.
Jażdżewski argues that many supporters are not embracing the ideological ideas, but rather, expressing frustration with mainstream right-wing parties that now seem too conventional. Even if Braun never enters government, his growing support is already pushing Poland’s traditional right toward more radical rhetoric.
He warns that this fragmentation could make any future right-wing coalition unstable and increase pressure on Law and Justice leader Jarosław Kaczyński. More broadly, Jażdżewski sees Braun’s rise as part of a global trend in which social media and political polarization allow fringe movements to enter the mainstream.
