The town of Rodynske near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region is under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and the Kremlin’s claims of its capture by the Russian army are false. The 1st Corps of the National Guard "Azov" posted this on Facebook . According to Azov, Russian occupiers infiltrating Rodynske are being identified and eliminated using all available means at the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ disposal. As confirmation of this, Azov showed a video of a Ukrainian flag planted in Rodynske by fighters from the 14th Operational Brigade of the 1st Corps of the National Guard.
On December 27, Russia announced that the Russian army had allegedly captured Rodynske in the Donetsk region, as well as several other towns in Ukraine. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces immediately denied this information. Azov’s video proves that the Russian occupiers do not control the town. Rodinskoye is located in the Pokrovsk sector of the front. In early autumn of this year, the Russian army attempted to capture the town during an offensive near Pokrovsk, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces drove the enemy out.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian occupiers attacked Ukrainian Armed Forces positions everal times in the Pokrovsk sector. All attacks were repelled. Fighting took place near the villages of Krasny Liman, Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Kotlino, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiya, and others. It’s worth noting that back in early December 2025, dictator Vladimir Putin was informed of the complete capture of Pokrovsk and the encirclement of Myrnohrad. This turned out to be another lie by the Russian Ministry of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov. Incidentally, Gerasimov reported to Putin three times in December that the Russian army had allegedly captured Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, but this is completely untrue. The Ukrainian Armed Forces control a significant portion of Kupyansk.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky also spoke about the situation in Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have no intention of withdrawing from Pokrovsk: the roads to the city are controlled by Ukrainian drone brigades and units, and the Russian army is unable to safely replenish its forces and is constantly suffering losses. There’s no point in the Ukrainian army withdrawing from its positions just to expose a new settlement to enemy attacks.
Face to face with the journalist, the general emphasized that at least half of all KAB deployments on the front are currently in Pokrovsk . The enemy’s primary targets are multi-story buildings that could house snipers, long-range weapons, and drone launch sites.
The Commander-in-Chief commented on panicked calls like "everything is lost," "we need to get out and save the enemy," and "it’s stupid," while also answering a logical question from his interlocutor about where the Ukrainian Armed Forces might retreat. " Go out into the open field, and then retreat, look for the next city, these settlements, which will also be leveled? " the general responded with a question , noting that an agglomeration like Pokrovsk would be difficult to destroy.
