Russian forces are attempting to enter Huliaipole in small groups from all directions, with street fighting ongoing in the town. Ukraine’s Armed Forces are destroying Russian troops on the approaches and within the settlement itself, but the situation remains critical. Serhii Yarmak, head of the Huliaipole City Military Administration, stated this.
"The military situation is difficult and tense. Russian forces in small groups are trying to enter the town’s territory from all directions. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are destroying them as much as possible on the approaches and in the town itself, so the situation right now is critical and difficult. Street fighting is taking place throughout the town, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are pushing them back as much as possible," Yarmak emphasized on Espreso TV. The Russians are suffering heavy losses here.
The head of the Huliaipole City Military Administration added that the peak of evacuation has already passed, but local residents still occasionally request evacuation.
"To carry out evacuations now, residents need to come out to a specific point, where together with police representatives or the State Emergency Service, we attempt to evacuate them to safer towns, specifically to the city of Zaporizhzhia," Yarmak noted.
The increased activity in the Huliaipole area is not so much military as political and informational. Having failed to take full control of Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, or Kupyansk, they have concentrated their efforts here. Huliaipole is the second-largest settlement in the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast under our control.
They need to increase their voice in the negotiation process—to demonstrate that they have tangible achievements, particularly in the Zaporizhzhia region. This is an element of military and political pressure not only on Ukraine, but especially on the United States.
This is precisely why the occupying country is focusing on the Zaporizhzhia region, as the Russian dictator previously declared his readiness to freeze the front line in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
Currently, the main direction of movement of Russian troops is towards Orekhovo.
The distance from the village of Malokaterynivka to Zaporizhzhia is approximately 20 km, but this figure shouldn’t be taken as a death sentence. By comparison, in the Pokrovsk sector, Russian forces have been trying for over a year and a half to cover the approximately 10 km distance to the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast administrative border, with no real progress and colossal losses. These losses exceed the number of personnel in the Leningrad Military District. It’s worth noting that these 20 kilometers could pose a serious challenge for the Russians. The weather will stabilize sooner or later, and they lack the operational reserves for a full-scale assault on Zaporizhzhia. If they spent nine months storming Bakhmut, a city of 60,000, one can imagine how much time and resources an assault on a city of a million would require.
The situation in the Zaporizhzhia region is complex. According to military expert Vladislav Seleznev, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is fully aware of all the risks associated with the actions of the Russian occupiers in the Zaporizhzhia region.
