DTEK: war on energy explained as millions left without power | Ukraine This Week

Ukraine is facing one of its most severe energy crises since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Russian forces continue to attack Ukrainian power plants and critical infrastructure amid extreme winter conditions with temperatures dropping to -20°C. In this episode of Ukraine This Week, Oleksiy Povolotsky, Head of the Recovery Office at DTEK (Ukraine’s largest energy company), discusses how repeated strikes, damaged or destroyed energy equipment, and freezing temperatures have left millions without stable electricity and heating, while energy workers work 24/7 to repair the grid under constant threat. Povolotsky also talks about Ukraine’s growing reliance on electricity imports from European partners and the urgent need for stronger air defenses to protect the energy system.
