Heavy thunderstorms and rain hit the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf states on Friday. According to Associated Press Heavy thunderstorms and lightning struck the area in Dubai’s downtown district, home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Lightning illuminated the night sky and thunder boomed in the Barsha neighborhood as Dubai’s roads were flooded and some cars were abandoned. Heavy rain also fell on Sharjah. Pumper trucks and police were out on the streets trying to clear the roads. Rain has been falling across the UAE over the week as the weather changes ahead of the country’s broiling summer.
