Hitting Russian ships immediately before the Kalibr missile launch is quite a difficult task, as it only takes a few hours. Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmitry Pletenchuk explained this during the telethon.

Specifically, he was asked to answer the question of whether it was possible to hit Russian ships before they launched sea-based Kalibr missiles at Ukraine – after all, the missile carriers’ launch was known in advance, as even monitoring channels reported.

"If we’re talking about direct use, it’s basically a matter of hours. So, of course, this issue is quite complex. But in most cases, Russians used submarines for this purpose. Because they are stealthy, it’s quite difficult to determine the exact area from which the launches will occur," Pletenchuk said.

He explained that this requires at least air power in the area. At the same time, the speaker noted that every ship eventually returns to its home port. It was precisely at such a moment in December 2025 that a Russian submarine carrying Kalibr missiles was hit in Novorossiysk. Therefore, Pletenchuk noted, every system has weaknesses that the Defense Forces will exploit at some point.

Currently, according to a representative of the Ukrainian Navy, there have been no deployments or uses of Russian combat units, including submarines.

"Russian aircraft, unfortunately, are as active as ever. And, most likely, the Russians once again launched a ballistic missile from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea," Pletenchuk said.

He noted that around the Crimean Bridge, protective structures built by the occupiers are destroyed from time to time due to storms.

"We will definitely cleanse the waters of all this dirt someday," Pletenchuk emphasized.

As a reminder, on December 15, it was reported that the SBU, together with the Ukrainian Navy, conducted a special operation in the port of Novorossiysk of Russian Federation, where, for the first time in history, Sub Sea Baby underwater drones blew up the 636.3-class submarine Varshavyanka . As a result of the explosion, the Russian submarine suffered critical damage and was effectively disabled.

This submarine carries Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles and, according to the Security Service of Ukraine, is valued at approximately $400 million. Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk explained that this was a complex operation because it involved a protected enemy base.http://youtube.com/kanal13az/join – click here and support Kanal13 monthly for distributing more videos and independent journalism
