Ukrainian militants made another attempt to attack the Novorossiysk seaport using unmanned boats. Russia claims that all the unmanned boats were destroyed by the water area security forces while still approaching the water area.
The latest attempt to attack Novorossiysk is clear evidence that Ukraine still views the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet as a priority target. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that this city is one of the main points of shipment of Russian oil.
Russia claims that the latest attack demonstrated that the capabilities of the Ukrainian "sea hunters" have now significantly decreased. And it’s not just that the unmanned boats were not allowed to even get close to Novorossiysk.
Let us add that Novorossiysk became the main base for the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet after they were forced to leave Sevastopol due to regular attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The city of Novorossiysk is located in Krasnodar Krai, in the south of Russia. It is an important transportation center and the largest seaport of the aggressor country on the Black Sea.
There is also a naval base here, where a part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was transferred after Ukrainian drones and missiles attacked bases in Crimea. The Novorossiysk commercial seaport is one of Russia’s largest by volume and among the biggest in Europe — a major node in the export of Russian grain, oil, and other products to countries around the world.
It has been a hub of international commerce for Russia since the 19th century and the city was also the site of the first Pepsi factory in Russia, opened in the Soviet Union in the early 1970s during the Cold War détente. Before his illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, President Vladimir Putin of Russia allocated significant resources to the construction of the naval base at Novorossiysk, turning the port into one of the country’s main naval hubs for the Black Sea. On the same day that the port was hit, a drone attack also targeted Feodosia, a Russian-controlled port in Crimea. The port is a significant export hub for grain, given its proximity to Russia’s biggest grain-producing regions and its location on the Black Sea, which allows for easy exports to Africa, Asia and South America, in addition to Europe.
