On the evening of January 6, Ukrainian drones visited the Belgorod region. There, they staged a fire show in the city of Stary Oskol. Drones struck an oil depot. The resulting fire can be seen from virtually every part of the city.

Belgorod Region Governor Vladislav Gladkov confirmed the strike on an oil depot in the Stary Oskol District. Residents of Stary Oskol reported a fire outside the city late at night on Jan. 6 and claimed a local oil depot was burning, according to the Russian opposition news channel Astra. Witnesses posted photos and video footage of a large fire at the site to social media. Later, Gladkov confirmed that a drone attacked the oil storage facility.

According to Gladkov, several storage tanks in the area caught fire as a result of the detonation. There are no preliminary reports of injuries. Fire crews tried to extinguish a fire at an oil depot.

Some Telegram channels note that the Tatneft oil depot was hit, while others say it was Oskolneftepostach, one of the largest suppliers of fuel and lubricants in the Belgorod region. As previously reported, a fire was reported at an industrial site in the Lipetsk region, caused by a drone crash. The incident occurred in the Usmansky District.

Also last night, from January 5th to 6th, air defense forces eliminated Ukrainian drones in the skies over the Voronezh region. One of the downed UAVs crashed onto railroad tracks, causing delays to several trains.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces also struck the Vologda Oblast, where six Ukrainian drones were reported downed. There were no casualties.

Belgorod Oblast borders Ukraine’s Sumy, Kharkiv, and Luhansk oblasts and is frequently targeted by Ukrainian strike on Russian military and industrial assets. Ukraine has previously attacked the Stary Oskol oil depot as part of its campaign against Russian oil, which supplies Moscow’s armed forces and funds its war chest.

Belgorod Oblast is also regularly used as a staging area for Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory.
