Israeli Air Force on Tuesday carried out strikes on eight railway segments and bridges in Iran, saying the attack was to disrupt the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ ability to move weapons and military equipment. Before the operation, the Israel Defense Forces issued a warning urging civilians in Iran to avoid using trains until later in the day. In an official statement, the IDF said it had targeted infrastructure – including rail bridges and road sections – that it claims the Iranian government uses to move military supplies. A security source told The Times of Israel that these particular rail links and bridges were considered strategically important routes for the IRGC’s weapons transport. The source also noted that Israel had previously signaled its intention to hit key elements of Iran’s national infrastructure in order to weaken the regime economically. According to the military, the attacks took place in multiple locations across Iran, including Tehran, Karaj, Tabriz, Kashan, and Qom. In the central city of Kashan, a regional official told state media that two people were killed when a rail bridge was struck. In Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city, all train operations were suspended indefinitely following the Israeli warning, according to local reports citing the provincial governor. At the same time, Axios reported on Tuesday—quoting an unnamed senior US official—that the United States military carried out attacks on Iranian military sites on Kharg Island. Situated off Iran’s western coastline, the island serves as a crucial hub for the country’s oil exports. These developments took place just hours before the deadline of US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum demanding that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He has warned that failure to comply could lead to a significant intensification of strikes, potentially targeting key infrastructure such as power plants and bridges. A few days ago, U.S. B-2A Spirit strategic bombers targeted an underground headquarters of the IRGC located in the mountains of the Jamaran area, north of Tehran. According to reports, satellite images of the military site in the mountainous region show a communications hub and several entrances to underground tunnels. The exact results of the strike have not yet been officially disclosed.
