Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed the bill on the European SAFE defense loan program, set to provide Poland with up to €44B euros – more than any other nation, escalating a clash with Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government over how to finance the country’s defense spending.

While EU leaders are strengthening integration across the bloc to be able to face shared challenges, President Nawrocki’s EU SAFE defense loan veto demonstrates the Polish head of state is heading in the opposite direction. That’s according to Adam Jasser, News Director at TVP World, who stressed that the presidential veto comes at a time when Europe is experiencing significant pressure from Russia and China.
