In Iran, the anger of protesters against the regime continues unabated. Against this backdrop, various retaliatory steps are being taken. İn one case the protesters entered a Basij headquarters, set fire to their motorcycles, stormed a prison and freed all the detainees in İran. The revolution inside Iran continues and will not end until the fall of the terrorist mullahs’ regime.
The mullahs’ regime is carrying out horrific massacres against its people and against the protesters. This is just a small part of what the protesters did when they confronted the criminal Basij and set fire to their vehicles. In this case the reported killing of thousands of protesters across Iran in just two days has raised a central question: who carried out the deadliest crackdown in the country’s living memory?
The scale of the violence—put at 12,000 by Iran International and as high as 20,000 by CBS—has shocked many Iranians. As images and accounts continue to emerge despite a near-total internet shutdown, attention has focused on who was responsible for the bloodshed. Tehran maintains that the violence was the result of armed infiltrators backed by Israel and the United States who attacked civilians and police and damaged state property, which it says triggered their forceful response.
Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence said that it had arrested 3,000 people it described as members of “terrorist groups.” Witness reports suggest that the primary force deployed on the streets was the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
Having established since the Islamic Revolution as both a powerful war-fighting force as well as a tool of suppressing internal dissent, particularly through its Basij paramilitary arm, the IRGC has traditionally been deployed as one of the most potent forces in both restoring order and combating foreign infiltration. But the IRGC finds itself still reeling from major blows suffered during a 12-day war with Israel in June, when scores of key commanders and personnel were killed. A number of other members and leading allies were slain in other theaters of the broader conflict surrounding the war in Gaza, particularly in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria, leaving the Axis of Resistance coalition built by the IRGC over the course of decades now in a moment of crisis.
