Ukraine will launch long-range strikes deep in Russia in response to Russia’s attacks, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Friday, without giving further details. In his evening address on September 19, Zelenskiy noted that the Kremlin was suffering heavy losses in the frontline, with Russian soldiers being captured on a daily basis, adding that Ukraine’s exchange fund has been significantly replenished. The Ukrainian leader reiterated his remarks made yesterday about the successful counteroffensive in Pokrovsk and Dobropillia directions of eastern Donetsk region, where Ukrainian troops have been advancing recently. Zelenskiy added that his troops were holding positions in Kupiansk as well. “I want to thank all our units involved. The 71th and 82nd Air Assault Brigades, our assault units – the 1st, 33rd, 225th, and 425th Assault Regiments, and the 14th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. Thank you, warriors!” Zelenskiy said. Furthermore, the Ukrainian leader highlighted the importance of domestic weapons production. “We have clear targets for what our army needs by the end of the year, what will be needed next year, and what must be in our storage facilities to defend the country and maintain adequate strength. This includes proper funding for weapons production here in Ukraine, co-production with partners, and supplies to Ukraine from what our partners manufacture themselves,” he said. Zelenskiy also thanked the parliamentarians for adopting the bill proposed by him on the Military Ombudsman, stating that “this is about real protection of the rights of our service members.” “It is important that this is felt at all levels within the Defense Forces of Ukraine: we are doing things that strengthen the army, and we are doing things that strengthen the people in our army,” Zelenskiy concluded.
