In Russia, the gasoline crisis is escalating amid Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries. A full-blown scandal is brewing on Z-channels: propagandists are accusing each other of "fueling the situation" and are already predicting the overthrow of the Putin regime and a new revolution, similar to the 1917 scenario. Russians’ dissatisfaction with the disappearing supply of gasoline is indeed becoming more widespread, according to social media reports.
One of the largest pro-regime Telegram channels, "Veteran’s Notes," compared the current gasoline shortage to the events in Petrograd over 100 years ago. Back then, despite the country’s vast grain reserves, an artificial shortage was created in the capital, which became a factor in the revolution and the fall of the Russian Empire. "In 1917, Russia was plentiful in bread, but in Petrograd it suddenly ‘disappeared.’ Now, instead of bread, we have gasoline. A country that produces fuel in huge quantities is suddenly putting its citizens in line for gasoline. This is abnormal!" the channel’s indignant voices complained. The Z-blogger openly draws parallels between the overthrow of Emperor Nicholas II and Putin.
Such comparisons are particularly alarming for the Kremlin: gasoline is a key resource for Russia, given its vast size and the economy’s dependence on motor vehicles. Fuel shortages affect not only drivers but the entire domestic market, from food prices to business operations. In fact, tensions are growing within Russian society, with even supporters of the government beginning to openly talk about the risks of revolutionary scenarios and the "overthrow of the regime."
As media x`reported, gasoline prices are rising in Russia due to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes , and fuel sales have plummeted.
Gas stations are also suffering from fuel shortages : independent station chains are losing out to major players. In Russia’s regions, around 40 gas stations are already refusing to sell gasoline to retail customers, operating only with long-term contracts. The situation with gasoline supply volumes to Russia is not expected to improve anytime soon: refineries require repairs ranging from one to several months, and farmers require fuel during the harvest season in September and October.
Russia’s government plans to extend its ban on gasoline exports through the end of the year as shortages continue to hit the domestic market, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.

“In the near future, we will extend the ban on gasoline exports until the end of the year, and a ban on diesel fuel exports by non-producers will also be introduced until the end of the year,” Novak told state media, without specifying when an official announcement would be issued.
